Newest playroom addition. You'll never guess what I used for shelves @etsy #diy

Its been taking me forever to get the playroom where I want it, but I was finally able to add the shelves I always wanted. 

I bought 3 used skateboards from Etsy. That's right, I figured skateboards went well with the graffiti feel of the room and plus I love giving something a second life. I bought them here from Etsy. Total cost for three was $57.00 including shipping and handling. You will need brackets, nuts/bolts, spray paint if you wish to paint the brackets, level, drill, dry wall plugs and screws. That's about it. 

Here is a quick step by step of what I did

The 3 random skateboards I was sent. 

I had to use a drill bit to widen the pre-existing holes that were already there. I used one bolt to hold the board to the bracket, so this just had to be done twice on each board. 

I then used a wrench to tighten the bolts and bracket together. I mounted with the brackets on, but also put the brackets on first then did this as the last step. Either way works, it's personal preference. Also probably easier to do this with a partner. I did it solo but help would of made it fly by even faster. 

If you chose to mount the brackets on the board make sure they are on there and squared up. Same with putting brackets on the wall, measure and level twice and drill once. 

​I used a laser level, which is one of the best things I have bought, to get an idea of where I wanted to put the shelves and to make sure they were straight. I also used the level to line up the holes, and this way I knew where to drill and put the dry wall plugs. 

I did the same steps on the other side. I decided to stagger them, and I will eventually put a small couch or futon below them.  It's become a really great place to display "toys" when they are not in use. Plus it really completes the look of the room. 

That's it! I spray painted the brackets the day before and everything else took less then an hour.
