Hotel McCoy in Tucson AZ

During these times they have drive thru check-in. They check you in right from your vehicle and wear masks the whole time

Have you ever wanted to feel like you've stepped back in time and into the future all in one? This amazing boutique hotel, Hotel McCoy, just outside the city center of Tucson is a must see. Before I forget, be sure to follow them on Instagram because they constantly post specials deals, and have music Monday. We snatched up the “weekday staycation” and we're given a great rate and 2 alcoholic beverages. Win! Plus they just have an amazing Instagram account. On their website, which you can find here, they describe their hotel and Tucson as:

Story

Vintage vibes. Modern perks. Affordable rates.

Retro meets contemporary here at our 1960’s mid-century modern art hotel. From the fully restored pool to the A-shaped entrance & exposed posts & beams, it’s the best of both worlds.

Tucson is magic. We’ll share that with you when you are here. The lobby is adorned with pieces created by Arizona artists. The beer we serve was brewed just down the street. The wine we pour comes from AZ wine country. The coffee we brew was roasted right here in Tucson.

True to our roots, Hotel McCoy emphasizes function & affordability – offering fellow wanderers local style & high-end amenities at low rates. This is what we call Travel For All.

What you see after driving in.

We are locals to Tucson and we wanted to support local and we decided to start our roadtrip here, and I am so glad we did. If you have concerns during covid about cleaniness and protocol they posted this on their website

HOTEL MCCOY IS BEYOND-CLEAN©

Long before masks were in fashion & socially distancing was a thing, we made cleanliness our priority. Our ownership & management team are travelers first, hoteliers second. We know that the incredible ambiance & all of the fun perks we offer, like ping-pong & an on-site art gallery, are moot points without an immaculate property & spotless guest rooms. We have taken the CDC & AHLA recommendations & expanded upon them to create our own standards of cleanliness called Beyond-Clean. Beyond-Clean ensures that your stay is safe, enjoyable, & stress-free.

We felt safe and cared about our entire stay, and I am glad they set the bar for the rest of our trip. That feeling began right as we entered through the “drive-in check-in”, and continued till we left. We were greeted at our vehicle and given the room service menu, our key and drink list. We also got our promotional drink coins, and enjoyed some Tucson beer later by the pool. Now, there are different types of rooms to pick from each with their own unique feel. We decided to go with the “broadway bunks”, and that included a queen bed and two bunk beds (apparently it was previously just 4 bunks). Perfect for our family of 4! The floors were wood and so were the exposed ceilings. It had that upgraded feel and also that retro feel all in one. There was a television, and we were able to connect our Netflix to watch a movie before bed. They also had a writing desk and a fan as well as an air-conditioner in the room, you know how hot Arizona can get. There was also a mini fridge for storing anything you needed to keep cool or to keep any drinks from the bar. Lol

The bathroom had a tub with a shower and all the typical toiletries. Hairdryer was provided as well. I loved the white brick wall. The room honestly had such a comfy feeling about it, as if we were staying at a friend's house. The beds were also amazingly comfortable.

After getting our bags into the room, we decided to explore the lobby area and pool area. Obviously our experience was covid based and who knows when things will change, but I can tell you the rules when we were there. Masks didn't have to be worn on property if you could social distance. In the lobby masks had to be worn, and only one family at a time were allowed in. Luckily it was just us and we were able to have some fun and explore for about 30 minutes.

How cool is this? Just 50¢ a game.

They had a crane game that had local goods as a prize, that machine took most of my money. Local art was for sale throughout. T-shirts. Postcards. Cactus pens. All the coolest souvenirs to remember your stay. This is where they would “usually” have their breakfast bar in the mornings, instead I ordered ahead and they brought to the room. I got myself a nice local beer and watched my son play pinball. He was in absolute heaven!!!!

The pool area was my personal favourite spot. I relaxed in a lawn chair while my kids swam and enjoyed the table in the pool. They also had foosball, ping-pong and a fenced in turf area with cornhorn. Murals and art were also through this area. Hotel McCoy really celebrates Tucson and all of its artists. It's like the best of Tucson all in one.

These were the current pool rules. When we were at the pool there were only 4 other people joining us.

The pool had a really relaxing vibe about it. One guest was enjoying a book while another couple enjoyed a beverage. It wasn't chaotic or crowded and really set the tone for the rest of our roadtrip. There were also some tables and chairs to just enjoy a drink outside.

They had different kinds of doormats throughout the resort. You could purchase in the gift shop.

After the pool we decided to head back to the room to enjoy some delivery and used room service to get a beer. Lol. So if you're looking for a chain resort with lots of visitors and elevators and bus boys, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an authentic Tucson experience and Tucson hospitality and love, then this boutique hotel is definitely for you.

Where would you like us to go for our next staycation?
