Our first glamping experience with Under Canvas

Before summer officially came to an end we decided to do one last trip. With it being football season I knew it was going to be a solo parenting trip, so I wanted to make sure I could drive there. We also had a new puppy on our hands, so I needed a place that would also be pet friendly. Then I found Under Canvas! I saw that their Grand Canyon site was still open and we decided to make the 5 hour drive to visit. After we went to the Grand Canyon the resort was about 30 minutes away from the gates of the park. My GPS had me enter at the wrong spot, but if you enter by the aerial museum you will see the signs. Since we went during Labor Day weekend I did see on instagram that you could save 25%, I had already booked our stay but they were nice enough to apply the discount anyway.

I went with the deluxe tent (the stargazer was sold out) and that tent has a king size bed, toilet, shower, and your very own deck with chairs. They saw on the reservation that I had two young children so they were kind enough to set up two sleeping bags on cots that my kids absolutely loved. Before the discount the deluxe tent was $284.32 and after the discount was just over $200. It’s not the cheapest experience, but I think it was worth every dime.

Their lobby was also a huge tent. A counter service type restaurant took your order for meals, you could order boxed lunches the night before. Complimentary coffee and water were also near the counter service. At night by the campfire they had complimentary smores, which was another tiny detail my kids loved. Being that it was a dog friendly resort, it was great to see everyone eating outside with their dogs and just enjoying each others company. I found the guests that were there to be very friendly and social. They also had boardgames and cards for guests to use, since they don’t have wifi. The atmosphere was just amazing. The night skies lit up with stars as we made our way back to our tent (you can walk or they will drive you in a golf cart). The tents don’t have tvs, so it was nice to just hang out with the kids. The bed was very comfortable and my son loved the cot (my daughter decided she wanted to sleep with me). I used our dog leash to clip all the zippers together of the tent opening together, I just kept thinking how my kids would leave in the night. They don’t have locks, but I am sure you could pack one. We all slept amazingly well. At about 4:30 am I was woken by the howling of coyotes, which sounded like a bunch to me, and my dog didn't even budge. Ha!. That morning we walked to the lobby with the dog and grabbed an amazing breakfast and got a coffee for the road. We will def be back and have actually booked a stay at their Tucson location.
