Snow Vacation Kids Must Haves.
Do you want to know how crazy this football life is? We lived/moved from Arizona to Michigan to Boulder, all in ONE year. I usually post about my Disney park must haves for kids, but today we are talking about everything you need for a snow bound vacation with kids.
Nothing can ruin a vacation more than a child who isn’t dressed appropriately. This is especially true for vacations in the colder climates. With our recent move to Boulder I have compiled a list of our favourite mountain attire so far. In our short time here the kids have hit the mountains 3 times. Since they are young and learning, they have been in a group lesson. So it’s even more important to make sure they are dressed for the weather.

Layers
I found this amazing one piece base layer for the kids. I was alittle apprehensive about a one piece, since they would have to figure it out when they had to visit the restroom. Well, these amazing Ninjasuits by AirBlaster had a zip around the waist that could be undone. Plus a zipper down the center that could zip from the bottom or the top. My daughter had no problem using the zipper to pee. Plus there was no chance of wind or snow blowing up their back. The suit also comes with a hood for the times they won’t need their entire head piece. My kids sometimes layered a sweater on top, or a long Johns under the suit. But with snow pants on top the ninja suit itself was such a great addition to the winter attire.

Mittens
This might be one of the most important items to for a winter vacation with kids. You never want a child to be complaining about cold hands. I made sure to look for mittens and not a glove, to me separated fingers are cold ones. I also wanted to make sure their mittens had a pouch for a hand warmer. It was so easy to pop when in and keep the kids hands warm the entire time. I found these amazing North Face ones, and so far so good. Warm hands and easy to get on and off.

Helmets
I’m so glad safety is always in fashion. My husband was shocked when I told him he would be wearing a helmet because everyone will be wearing them. It’s so much easier to have a child follow rules, when the rest of us are doing it. For the helmet I found the Wildthorn ones on Amazon to be good for under 5!!! I say that with an exclamation point because it said kids, and they didn’t even come close to fitting my sons head. So if you have a under 5, this helmet AND goggle combo is great.

For my 7 year olds helmet I decided to go with a different brand. We found this Giro black helmet, which is perfect for all the stickers your kids will add. It does not come with goggles. Both helmets are adjustable in the back and can be tightened easier.

Socks
Another very important area for kids is socks. You never want your child to have cold feet and wet feet. Because they are working so hard, sweaty feet can happen. We found these Smart Wool socks to be the best. So much so that even I have the same ones. We have only had to wear just them, and found ourselves to be warm the entire day. I put simple cotton socks in their pockets for emergencies and we never used them.

Balaclava
Lastly we have the balaclava or aka “the hoodie”. This was so easy for kids. While in a lesson I didn’t have to worry about my kids losing a hat. If their helmet was enough warmth, then they could easier take down the hood part without losing the entire thing. It was also easy to bring down from the mouth or up to cover it when it’s really cold.
