Avengers Campus at DCA
After over a year of waiting we finally did our March 2020 Disneyland/DCA in July of 2021 and we couldn’t be happier. Keep checking back for more of my blogs about this trip! For now, I’m going to focus on the newest area of DCA and what I was most excited about seeing. Avengers Campus!
I will start by saying that we didn’t get the 7am virtual queue for Web Slingers. I’m a Disney professional at booking and even I wasn’t able to get that morning slot, and this was the first time that has happened to me. I was sad and stressed about getting it later, but that didn’t put a damper on our day. After entering the park at 7:45, it was shockingly a smooth and less crowded entry, we headed toward Marvel Campus. They did have a line form at both entrances right up until 8am, and the crowds were nothing like Galaxy’s Edge opening months.
Our first stop was Guardians of the Galaxy! We walked right on and probably could of done the ride a couple more times without having to wait. I actually challenge another Disney lover to see how many times they can get on that ride in the morning hours. Huge tip. Both parks didn’t have lines or anything the first hour or even hours!!!! After rocking out with Star Lord and friends we decided it was time to eat and drink. We mobile ordered everything! I made my order as soon as we walked into the area and ate at Pyms Test Kitchen. We went with “The ever expanding Cinna-pym toast”, “Nano-eggperiment 101”, “Proton PB&J Punch” and a nitro coffee. My absolutely loved their take on French toast. My eggs kept asking questions about the egg and where they got it, and of course I told them about pym particles. Honestly, I have no idea where or how they got eggs that small and I am just assuming its from a quail.
I wonder where Disney comes up with the little details. The tiny egg may go unnoticed to some or just get a quick smile, but to my kids the egg was the coolest thing ever. After watching the pretzels get enlarged or shrunk, my kids had so many questions and just loved it. I thought it really brought them into the experience the best way possible, with food!
My kids downed the proton punch in about 3 seconds. I couldn’t really taste the peanut butter in the drink part, but really tasted it in the whipped cream and pretzel balls. The drink part was a frizzy strawberry concoction and was delicious and refreshing. It wasn’t overly sweet or too much of a good thing. I am waiting for a coffee drink with that sort of a fun topping on it. I loved what they came up with for the Pym Test Kitchen and thought they really included such detail that only Disney can do. I did have a cocktail as well, but forgot to take a photo. I don’t know what it is, but Disney loves making sugar cocktails. I got the “insert name of gin honey drink” and it was tasty but alittle too sweet for my liking. You couldn’t really taste any of the gin and my daughter ended up eating the honey stick. Next we decided to spend some time just walking around and exploring the campus. There were many great photo ops with characters and they usually have one or two characters always around. Due to COVID they didn’t have any close up photos, but the Avengers did talk and interact with guests. We did miss the Spider-Man show, but did manage to see all the characters in the time we spent in the area.
I will say that I thought that the gift shop would be much bigger. It was more of a Web Slingers shop more than anything. Of course we left with a spider, and it cost $80. I will say it’s well made and sturdy, but doesn’t walk fast enough and isn’t fun unless you can battle another one. I wasn’t going to spend another $80 just so it could battle, and my daughter decided on the cheaper/smaller spider anyway. Lol. The cast member was kind enough to cut away all the packaging and that saved us carrying around a heap of cardboard and plastic.
This was just a first impressions blog, and I will go into more detail about getting on Web Slingers. I will say that the campus really added more space and makes DCA seem more seamless. Before they opened, Guardians of the Galaxy: Breakout! felt like it was really out of place and didn’t belong where it was. Now they tied in the entire campus and the storylines blend that much more. I am interested to see how or if they do anything special for Oogie Boogie’s Halloween Bash. The new interactive treat lines are my favourite addition and I am keeping my fingers crossed that Marvel Campus get some sort of Halloween touch. Or if the Pym Test kitchen wipes up some unique Halloween treat. After being at Avengers Campus I fell like the whole point of it is for more human interaction. To make you feel like you are part of a Marvel moment. I look forward to whats to come once the pandemic protocols are over and how everything will play out. We loved just walking around and listening to the characters, eating and drinking and just people watching. With only two rides, and one of them not being new, I thought the food and drink really sold me on the addition. I would love to go back and explore more of the cocktails and food. Spend a morning just people watching and eating. I will keep you posted on changes as we return to the parks when there aren’t any covid restrictions still in place. I like to keep my blogs short and sweet, but love to answer any questions you might have about the area.
Have you been to Avengers Campus? What did you eat or drink?
