My top 3 educational "screen time" app or programs for young kids.

Since we are all cooped up inside, and what is starting to look like a long time, we might as well share things that are keeping our kids busy. I can only speak about my kids, aged 3 and 5, but these would also work for those little younger or older. iPads are usually a treat and only used when we go on airplanes, but obviously the current situation calls for some rule breaking. These aren't mindless games or “video games” these are apps to be an aid in your child's learning.

Here are my top “screen time” activities

Osmo: The goal is for children to “interact with technology without losing the value of hands on play”. This system does require a iPad or tablet, and a starter kit which includes a base and camera mount. After that you can purchase as many or as few games as you would like. The possibilities are endless. I feel that the hands-on play isn’t lost, and the kids don’t become zombies. 3 year olds fav app is the Princess coloring book, and my 5 year old son loves the Pizza Company (which teaches math in a fun way). Apps can be found in your App Store, and the starter kits can be found on Amazon or click here. My kids learn and love playing with the endless games.

ABC Mouse : ABC mouse is currentlying running a promotion on their website and dealt with previous problems of app crashing from so many users. The deal is 49% off annual subscription , and you can try it for free for 30 days. This app requires some sort of device, it could be a computer, phone or iPad. We are new to this and so far my youngest is liking it, but my son is finding it too simple. They cover reading, math, the world around us, art & colors and the list goes on. I will continue to update this as we continue to explore this app during this time.

Endless Alphabet: This app by Originator Inc is one of the many “endless” ways for kids to learn. My kids have a blast learning their abc’s and building their vocabulary with the cute monsters. The app comes with 7 free word puzzles and animations and you can purchase the rest for a fee. I like this because there is no high score, failures, or stress. They have other learning apps and I would recommend them all.

What have you been using during this time? Any educational apps that you swear by?
